Applications Now Open for Life-Changing Scholarship
The QCoal Foundation Scholarship, which has provided nearly $350,000 to support Queensland’s future regional tertiary workforce, is now open for applications!
Talented and engaged students from across regional Queensland are encouraged to apply for the scholarship which provides $30,000 over three years to the successful recipient.
The scholarship awards a James Cook University (JCU) student with $10,000 per year for three years, helping to ease the financial pressures associated with studying. Over the past 12 years, recipients from disciplines including Medicine, Engineering, Dentistry, Geology, Speech Pathology, Teaching and Veterinary Science have benefited from the program.
The 2027 QCoal Foundation Scholarship is the 13th to be awarded, with the Selection Committee and QCoal Foundation Board searching for students with not only lived experience in their regional communities, but a genuine understanding of the challenges facing those communities. Applicants are encouraged to share their personal experiences and, where possible, provide a short video presentation to support their application.
Priya Taylor-Sidhu, the 2026 QCoal Foundation Scholarship recipient noted that the support she received has allowed her to full immerse herself in her studies at James Cook University. To any students considering applying for the QCoal Foundation Scholarship, Priya says,
