Henry’s Story of Overcoming Anxiety and Rebuilding Relationships
Henry* was referred to the Act for Kids Re-ACT CQ program for anxiety symptoms he experienced after a traumatic event. He lived at home with his parents, but his relationship with them had become strained. Henry’s struggles with low self-esteem, anxiety, and other concerning behaviours affected not only his family dynamics but also his ability to connect and build strong, trusting relationships with other people in his life.
Recognising these challenges, the Re-ACT CQ therapist worked closely with Henry and his parents, using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help him process his past trauma, better understand his emotions, and develop healthier coping strategies. The therapy sessions provided a safe space for Henry to express his feelings, build self-awareness, and gradually regain confidence in himself. His parents were also actively involved in the process, learning ways to support him more effectively.
Over time, Henry made remarkable progress. By the end of therapy, he had successfully achieved his goals of being able to regulate his emotions when feeling anxious or stressed. His resilience and newfound confidence reflects the compassionate support provided by the Re-ACT CQ Therapist. Another significant achievement through therapy was the restoration of his relationship with his parents and other people in his life.
Upon completing his therapy sessions, Henry expressed gratitude to his therapist by gifting them a heartwarming award – a picture of a medal he drew himself declaring the words: “Best therapist”.
Henry’s story is a testament to the power of early intervention, therapy, and family support in helping children overcome trauma and build a brighter future.
