20,000 Reasons to Smile
In one of Queensland’s most remote locations, Camooweal, the RFDS Mobile Dental Unit recently celebrated a remarkable milestone, treating its 20,000th patient. Local resident Sharna Anderson, a long-time user of the service, was the lucky patient.
Sharna shared her appreciation for the service, explaining how it has made a significant difference for her and her family. “Camooweal is a long way from a lot of things, including dental care, so I plan around the dental truck arriving. It really is an amazing service,” she said.
In 2013, QCoal Foundation partnered with the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) to address the chronic lack of oral health care in regional and remote communities. From this partnership a mobile dental service was born, comprised of two state-of-the-art dental surgeries in a purpose-built semi-trailer offering a range of treatments including x-rays, extractions, and referrals to specialist care.
Lee Poole, Executive General Manager of Nursing and Clinical Services, noted, “For many, it’s a vital health service they simply can’t do without. Our goal is to expand this service in the future to reach even more communities across Queensland.”
We congratulate the RFDS on this terrific milestone and we remain proud to be a founding partner of this life-changing service. Together we are building resilient regional and remote Queensland communities!
