Collinsville Youth Coalition- Life Skills Project

The QCoal Foundation was proud to support the Collinsville Youth Coalition’s first Life Skills Program which was held over several weeks in April/May.

The program provided participants with the opportunity to learn a range of practical skills including cooking and budgeting skills where students had to plan and cook a wholesome meal; basic essential skills at the local mechanic including changing tyres, checking oil and water and tyre pressure; team building; and job skills training, resume design and interview preparation and role-playing.

All participants also attended a Graduation dinner where they received plaques and certificates.

Youth Activities Coordinator Hannah Johnson said the program helped to promote the importance of life skills as well as the importance of school in broadening participants knowledge to be able to gain employment in the future.

“This program showed that confidence building, team work, resume building, cooking skills and other aspects covered in the workshops, when delivered in a way that is fun and relatable for youth, can be extremely effective in engaging youth activities outside of school as well as school.”
